What to Expect From Your First Botox Appointment

Botox is the most performed cosmetic procedure in the world, yet many first-time patients arrive with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. Most of that anxiety comes from misconceptions — the frozen faces and overfilled features you see on social media are the result of poor technique, not Botox itself. When done well, nobody should know.

The consultation

Every Botox appointment at our clinic begins with a consultation. We discuss your concerns, your aesthetic goals, and your medical history. I ask patients to show me their natural expressions — smiling, frowning, raising their brows — to understand their facial dynamics before touching anything. This step is not negotiable.

The procedure

The injections themselves take 10–15 minutes. We use very fine needles — most patients describe the sensation as a small pinch. No anaesthetic is typically needed, though we can apply a topical numbing cream if you’re particularly sensitive. You may see tiny bumps at the injection sites immediately after; these resolve within 20–30 minutes.

Immediately after

You can return to most normal activities straight away. We ask patients to avoid: lying down flat for 4 hours, exercise for 24 hours, and alcohol for 24 hours. Do not rub or massage the treated area. Avoid facials or other facial treatments for two weeks.

When will I see results?

Botox does not work instantly. You’ll see the first effects at 3–5 days and full results at 10–14 days. I always schedule a two-week review appointment to assess the outcome and make any minor adjustments if needed. Results typically last 3–4 months for first-time patients; with regular treatment, the effects can last longer.

Addressing the ‘frozen’ concern

The goal of well-placed Botox is to soften movement, not eliminate it. You should still be able to express yourself fully. If you feel you ‘can’t move’ anything after a treatment, that is a sign of over-treatment. At our clinic, I always recommend starting conservatively — it’s easy to add more at a review, but you cannot remove what has been injected.
